Sometimes healing happens in the quietest moments.

Last month, Street Connect hosted a small afternoon tea in Govan, bringing together women from our community for a few hours of conversation, connection, and of course, plenty of tea and cake.

What made the afternoon special wasn’t a formal programme or structured discussion. Instead, it was the opportunity to gather in a relaxed and welcoming environment where friendships could grow and conversations could unfold naturally.

For many women in recovery, traditional group settings can feel daunting. Creating spaces where people can connect without pressure can make all the difference.

One participant shared:

“I sometimes struggle with the traditional ‘group recovery environment,’ especially when we all gather with the intention of discussing the challenges we face. The afternoon tea, however, felt much more relaxed and natural, creating the perfect setting for conversations about our recovery journeys to flow organically – helped no doubt, by the promise of tea and cake!

The event was beautifully thought out from start to finish and gave a real sense of being treated with dignity, care, and respect. The home baking was absolutely delicious and the scones in particular deserve a special mention – I have the recipe.

A huge thank you to Street Connect for bringing together such a wonderful group of strong, inspiring women. It was a genuinely uplifting afternoon and a lovely reminder that recovery conversations don’t always need four walls and a circle of chairs.”

Stories like this remind us that recovery is about more than overcoming challenges. It is about belonging, being seen, and finding hope through meaningful connections with others.

We are grateful to everyone who helped make the afternoon possible and to the incredible women who joined us. Together, they created a space filled with warmth, encouragement, and hope.
