Time commitment: Flexible to suit volunteer/Service User
Role description: Provide regular social time on a one-to-one basis to an individual looking to make progress in their life and integrate into society.
Benefits to the volunteer: If you want to make a difference to someone who needs individual support, this could be the role for you. You will be able to develop social and personal skills, knowing that your involvement is making a difference. This could be helpful towards gaining experience in social care and would be attractive on a CV.
Main Tasks: As a befriender, your skills, personality and location will be matched appropriately to an individual who has requested support on a one-to-one basis. Helping the service user to integrate into the local community by e.g: going for a coffee in a café, going to the cinema or local event, encouraging a hobby or interest.
Required skills, qualities and experience: We are looking for volunteers who are understanding, patient, empathetic and good at listening.
Training and support available: You will be given induction training into the various aspects of the work and support and supervision from our Volunteer Coordinator or other Support Worker.
Reimbursement of expenses: Out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed, including travel expenses and the costs for your and service users’ reasonable activity expenses.
- This role carries a requirement of an active Christian faith. As Street Connect is a Christian organisation this post carries an Occupational Requirement in line with the Equality Act 2010.

- Roles that include direct support of participants also requires volunteers to become members of the PVG scheme (standard disclosure)
- 3-month probation period
