During our week of prayer and fasting, we met every day to bring our praises, thanksgiving and requests before God. We know all we do is built on prayer and led by God, therefore it is important to lay a solid foundation for what lies ahead.

As we ended our week of prayer and fasting. Chloe our communications officer shared the scripture found in Psalm 23 in our last prayer meeting:

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
    He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
    he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,[a]
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
    all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord

You might be in a season of waiting, of having expectant hope or maybe in a dark valley of obstacles. It can be difficult to “walk and live by faith” when times are difficult.

There is a lot we as Christians can gather from these verses:

Shepard = relationship with God

I have what I need = supply for what we need when we need it

He lets me lie down in green pastures = we can have rest for our souls, even when we are weary.

Leads me beside quiet waters = refreshment

Renews my life = healing is available to us

Leads me along the right paths = God not only provides but He guides us

The darkest valley = knowing that tests and trials will come

I fear no danger = we have God’s protection and shield over our lives.

For you are with me = God’s enduring faithfulness and closeness

What word of encouragement do you receive from Psalm 23?

Here is a short prayer that you can say aloud:

Thank you that you are our Good Shepard and we can trust you with our lives. Thank you for your leadership, covenant, and sovereignty. For your guidance,  watchful eye and care in all our days. Thank you for the peace that surpasses all understanding, the restoration for our souls and bringing us hope in all our tomorrows. Even when trials may come our way, your faithfulness and promises endures. With you there is hope, rest and peace. We praise you for the assurance that your goodness and love follows us even when we are unaware.

In Jesus name, amen.
