Time commitment: Various day-times on weekdays and Saturday evenings.

Role description: Working as part of a team of two to go and speak with disadvantaged and marginalised people on the streets.

Benefits to the volunteer: You will be taking part in the very heartbeat and origin of Street Connect, going out to meet the people in the streets, offering hope and the opportunity to change their lives. Many of these people are homeless, in addiction, have mental health struggles and are marginalised by society. You will grow in confidence and social skills as you chat and relate to the people you meet, learning to listen well and empathise with their difficult situations. 

Main Tasks: This role will include; a briefing from the team leader and plan for the outreach; going out in pairs to reach out to those on the streets; sharing and promoting appropriate services; debriefing and feedback after outreach work; documenting any incidents in log book.

Required skills, qualities and experience: We are looking for volunteers who have a willingness to serve, to be committed and to be on time. You will be a good listener with a friendly, caring manner. Previous experience is helpful but not necessary. You will need to be able to work as part of a team. Due to the nature of the work you need to be able to endure harsh weather and challenging situations.

Training and support available: You will be given induction training into the various aspects of the work and support and supervision from our Volunteer Coordinator or other staff member.

Reimbursement of expenses: Out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed, including travel expenses.

Other requirements: You require to be 21+ years of age with a sympathy of the Christian faith.

  • Roles that include direct support of participants also requires volunteers to become members of the PVG scheme (standard disclosure)
