Last month #VolunteersWeekScot celebrated the contribution volunteers make to the work of charities, and we joined in the celebrations on media social media to give a shout out to a few of our volunteers, sharing their views and thanking them for the part they play in our team!

We’re so thankful to the volunteers that enable us at Street Connect to do the work we do and support those who are marginalised in our society. Our impact to the communities we work in is only made possible through the willingness and support of our volunteers and the time and energy they sacrifice.

We have a variety of roles for volunteers, both in the office and on the front-line in our communities, and we’re always looking for more people to be a part of our team! Here is a list of some of the ways you could help us with our mission:

Outreach Volunteer: Working as part of a team of two to go and speak with disadvantaged and marginalised people on the streets. This role is an active part of our initial outreach and is really important for making our presence known to people in the community and providing short-term support at the time of contact. More info on this role HERE.

Drop-in Café Volunteer: Supporting the running of a Drop-In Café to serve the guests who attend the café is a crucial job for our services. This role will involve helping to manage the café serving area, maintaining it, keeping it clean and tidy, and befriending those who attend the café. Click HERE for more info.

Befriender: This role involves supporting an individual who has requested support on a one-to-one basis. This menas you will be helping the service user to integrate into the local community by e.g. going for a coffee in a café, going to the cinema or local event, encouraging a hobby or interest. Find out more HERE.

Fundraising Volunteer: The work of fundraising is vital to Street Connect existing. This role involves working at a part of our team writing funding applications, organising community fundraising or participating in sponsored events. Ger more info on the role HERE.

Support Work Volunteer: This role is to support and provide emotional, (potentially) spiritual and practical support to an individual as well as helping service users access other services. This could look like encouraging and accompanying an individual to social outings of appointments and helping them access other services in their community. Check out the full details of the role HERE.

All our volunteering roles require you to fill in our Volunteer Application form, which you can download and email back to us once complete.

If you’d like to contribute to the work of Street Connect, but our volunteer roles don’t suit you, you can support us by following us on social media, signing up to our newsletter or donating to the work we do!
