Location: Glasgow city centre, Possilpark, Clydebank, Paisley, Greenock and Deal, Kent.
Time commitment: Approximately 3 hours.
Role description: Supporting the running of a Drop-In café to serve some of the most vulnerable and marginalised people in society.
Benefits to the volunteer: This is a great opportunity and privilege to contribute to the work of Street Connect by caring for and serving the café guests. You will learn how to manage behind the café serving area, maintaining it, keeping it clean and tidy. As you engage with and befriend guests, this is an opportunity to develop your confidence and social skills. It may be useful experience for a CV.
Main Tasks: As a Drop-In Café volunteer you are asked to arrive promptly to partake in a pre-service briefing and (optional) prayer time. Prepare behind the serving area, be willing to welcome and chat to guests, potentially collect sandwiches from local outlet, be willing to serve hot drinks and food to service users and give helpful advice if asked i.e. redirect to other services.
Required skills, qualities and experience: A friendly, caring and empathetic manner. Previous experience is helpful, but not necessary.
Training and support available: Full training will be provided as appropriate. You will be able to shadow a member of staff or experienced volunteer to learn the fundamentals of the operating of the cafe You will debrief at the end of every session and support & supervision from our Volunteer Coordinator or other staff member.
Reimbursement of expenses: Out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed, including travel expenses.
Other requirements: You require to be 21+ years of age with a sympathy of the Christian faith.
